What We Do

  • WHAT WE DO

To put it simply, the Northern Michigan Public Health Alliance was formed to promote health throughout the northern Lower Peninsula.

Our partners, who operate in 25 Northern Michigan counties, cooperate in developing and implementing public health services that increase the capacity of our region’s health care delivery system, contain costs, maximize assets and more effectively impact health outcomes.

The alliance advances health and wellness by strategically structuring services, measuring outcomes, engaging the community and carefully developing effective practices.

Some examples of our recent work and successes:

    • Conducting community health assessments and improvement plans for four regional hospitals
    • Awarded $800,000 grant from the Northern Health Plan to combat obesity and chronic disease
    • Implemented a three-year, $1.9 million grant to vaccinate Northern Michigan children
    • Established a Regional Public Health Emergency Preparedness Team for Northwest Michigan counties
    • Created Enroll Northern Michigan to help residents sign up for the Healthy Michigan Plan or coverage on the federal Health Insurance Marketplace
